Service Description

This is not just a story time. It’s a structured, inclusive early learning course designed to support children in the years before school — in a way that actually works for them. Sensory Story & Play Time is a 10-week, small-group program that supports children to build: -Communication skills (including AAC, core words and Key Word Sign) -Early literacy and numeracy foundations -Social connection and shared attention -Regulation and participation in group settings -Confidence for preschool, school and community environments All through play, movement, sensory experiences, and predictable routines. What makes this different? This course has been designed by an experienced inclusive educator who understands that: ✔ Participation does not always look like sitting still ✔ Behaviour is communication ✔ Children need time, space and the right supports to engage Each session is: -Visually supported (clear, predictable structure) -Communication-rich (AAC modelled throughout) -Sensory-aware (movement and regulation built in) -Flexible (children can participate in their own way) Who this course is for? This course is ideal for children aged approximately 3–5 years who: -find traditional group settings overwhelming -benefit from visual supports and predictable routines -are developing communication skills -need sensory-friendly ways to participate -are preparing for preschool or school Parents or carers remain with their child throughout the session. What can we expect? Each week follows a consistent structure to reduce anxiety and build confidence: -Arrival & Welcome routine -Music and Movement -AAC-supported sensory story -Structured play stations -Goodbye routine Across the 10 weeks, children are gently supported to move from: observing → engaging → participating → communicating → initiating At their own pace. What Families Gain This course supports both children and their adults. You will: -See strategies in action that you can use at home -Learn how to support communication in everyday moments -Understand how to reduce overwhelm and support regulation -Feel more confident supporting your child in group environments -Confidently advocate for your child and support their transition to school or pre-school Because support shouldn’t stop at the session — it should carry into real life. Course length: 10 weeks Session duration: 45–60 minutes Investment: $12 per session/$120 per term
