3 Step Sequencing Freebie
Three Step Visual Sequencing FREEBIE
Small steps. Clear order. More “By Mineself” moments.
Some children don’t struggle with the task — they struggle with knowing where to start and what comes next.
Visual sequencing helps break tasks into clear, manageable steps so children can understand, begin, and complete activities with greater independence.
This free 3-Step Visual Sequencing Chart gives children a simple visual structure to follow. It can be used for everyday routines, learning tasks, and skill building at home, school, or therapy sessions.
Designed with neurodivergent learners in mind, this tool supports children who benefit from clear visual information, predictable structure, and reduced language demands.
Why visual sequencing works
Visual sequencing supports children to:
• understand what to do first, next, and last
• improve task completion and follow-through
• build early literacy and comprehension skills
• strengthen executive functioning and organisation
• reduce overwhelm and increase independence
When children can see the steps, the task becomes clearer — and success becomes more achievable.
Ways you can use it
This sequencing chart can support:
• daily routines (pack bag, brush teeth, get dressed)
• task completion (packing lunch, tidying toys, cleaning up)
• early literacy skills (retelling a story in order)
• learning tasks (cut → glue → colour)
• life skills and independence building
The visuals are customisable, allowing you to add your own images, symbols, or photos to match your child’s needs.
How it works
Place visuals in the top row (To Do) in the order the task needs to happen.
The child completes Step 1 first.
When the step is finished, move the visual to the Done section.
Continue until all three steps are complete.
This simple movement helps children see progress and experience success as they move through a task.
